Alex Here!

Hi everyone! We wanted to take a second and update everyone on all the things that have been going on since Carioca left and how we're doing settling in.

It's been a few months since Carioca went to The States to marry me and bring me back to Itu. And in that time, the VIVA community has been busy!

The kids have taken great care of the VIVA house and have even held a few meetings to talk about how to improve the community they are working so hard to build. It is pretty incredible to see them taking ownership of VIVA. It means that this has become a place of belonging and safety for them and so many others.

Right before we got back, VIVA hosted a Festa Junina, which is a customary celebration in Brazil. The professor of our entrepreneurship class helped the VIVA students organize the whole thing. They set up lights and games and food and music - and all with zero cost! People from church and the neighborhood donated what they could so that all the proceeds from the party could go to Camp Roots, a bilingual church camp that's coming up next month. The money raised at the Festa Junina, along with a car wash fundraiser that they also organized, will help some of the VIVA kids be able to go to camp. They are working so hard! This is pretty incredible too because it means that these kids are seeing Jesus and wanting a relationship with Him.

Next week we plan to sit down with everyone at VIVA to dream about what's next. I am super excited to become a part of this community. For now, we are doing lots of unpacking and organizing. I will be starting Portuguese classes soon and I'm eating lots of pão de queijo so we're pretty much good to go.

If you, or anyone you know, wants to give to VIVA or become a part of our monthly support, you can click the donate button at the top of the page.

Here are a few prayer requests from us:

Our transition into married life
